As American forces pulled out of Kabul and left Afghanistan, people in the country faced chaos. The Taliban seized control of the capital and assumed authority over the country as thousands of people were trying to flee. But in the midst of the rush aboard planes and vehicles headed out of Afghanistan, an East Tennessee woman stayed behind. She said she had animals to care for.

RESCUE MISSION KABUL follows the compelling stories and courageous efforts of Charlotte Maxwell-Jones in Kabul. 

From the time she first arrived in Afghanistan due her career in archeology, staying over after she finished her studies helping animals in need, and then her life changing decision when she stayed behind in Kabul to care for the dogs and cats who were not allowed to return to US after the military pulled out in August 2021.

Charlotte made a decision that would change the course of her life: While the American military pulled out of Afghanistan during the Taliban takeover, this courageous animal advocate chose to stay with her animals who were not allowed to leave on American aircraft.

Charlotte, the Director and founder of an animal rescue clinic in Kabul that helped American troops bring home cats and dogs from Afghanistan after their deployments, raced to evacuate her staff and hundreds of animals by August 31st of 2021.
